We are presenting Epicurean Endocrinology at MICA as part of a course called "The Uncanny Body".
"Curator Liz Flyntz and bio-artist Byron Rich use food to explore contemporary transformations in human body chemistry caused by unprecedented levels of hormone-mimicking compounds that enter the environment through industrial products, pharmaceuticals, and agricultural processes. Flyntz and Rich trace the flow of these endocrine disruptors, mapping the biopolitics of capitalism, food culture, sex, and gender. In a series of culinary experiments, the artists serve meals that become “sexed” thanks to the xenohormones present in ordinary supermarket ingredients. These dishes bring the uncanny effects of endocrine disruptors into our most intimate spaces and activities."
